Bob, a young "happiness counselor", has sold a whopping one copy of his book in the United States. Rather than despair, he revels in the news that "they love him in Deutschland." Embracing his opportunity, he boards his inner child and his guitar on a jet for a German book tour. Not since the Marshall Plan has U.S.-German relations been so thoroughly tested as in this musical comedy. The beautiful but bitter Greta, her anti-American boyfriend and the eternal Mr. Positive become casualties left by the clash of cultures. In the end, our overly sunny hero Bob, armed only with his home-spun philosophies and a guitar he can't play, brings new perspective to the Germans, and more importantly, something deeper for himself.
A romance that will warm even the sourest heart with its charm and biting satire, Half Empty is a hugely entertaining, Christopher Guest-style romp that inspires infectious laughter.
